The Distinct Life was founded by Williams based on a design philosophy that includes embracing your roots, paying attention to the finer details, and a belief that every product and brand has a story that must be told. The Distinct Life specializes in “becoming the customer” and helping brands go through the sometimes painstaking details required to develop and launch a product or campaign that will resonate and touch the hearts & minds of the intended consumer.
Since launching in 2011, the Distinct Life has had the opportunity to work with numerous clients including General Motors, Heineken, New Balance, Saucony, and Reebok among others with services ranging from pure product design to developing marketing campaigns all the way to helping a brand re-invent itself.
DLDG creates original products and also partners with like-minded brands to deliver limited edition consumer products that include the Distinct Life’s penchant for the finer details and focus on having each product tell a story.
Rick has a passion for branding and design, with a particular focus on helping brands re-connect with their roots by injecting creative storytelling and the finer details into projects. Rick’s approach continues to resonate with Distinct Life clients in projects as varied as helping re-launch once forgotten shoe models, connecting a global automaker to a new target audience, and creating an authentic bridge to introduce new brands to the influencer community.
Rick operates from a philosophy of “abundance” and continues to influence and mentor countless individuals in both the national and Detroit area design & sneaker communities, helping others get their brands off the ground and connecting them to the “industry”. Rick is also spearheading the development of a college-mentoring program in the metro Detroit area at his alma mater, Oakland University, helping Detroit are youth understand the path to becoming a successful entrepreneur and small business owner.
